In the market we can find 360 cameras for many uses, audiences and pockets. In fact it is very difficult to choose between all of them. 2017 has taken a leap forward regarding image quality and offer. To easy the search, we have selected the best cameras as well as the most economic ones, and the medium range cameras. As for the professional ones, we will talk about them extensively in further publications.
Online you can find anything at any price, in the world of the 360 cameras this is no less. Nevertheless, the more we decrease the price, the quality of 360 video weakens, considerably. This is the scenario, in which many action 360 cameras not so well known are available for less than 100 euros. Among them, one of the more recommended one is the MixMart 360 4K, which is not a camera which offers real 360º, but offers a quality immmersive image very reasonable for its price.
In this segment is where the bitter fight is. Here the main technological manufacturers have been working on being able to offer medium quality options with the ability of creating a streaming, at quite an adjusted price. Samsung, LG, Ricoh or Kodak have the most praised cameras:
> LG 360 Cam.
Price: 211 €.
It appeared in the market on 2016, becoming the veteran of the list. It does not reach the 4k resolution (it reaches on an acceptable 2k), nor has the chance to do a streaming as its competitors, but its current price and its quality makes us still take her into account. One of the things we like about it: it is compatible with Android and iOs.
> Samsung Gear 360 (2017).
Price: 250 €.
Without doubt, it is one of the starring cameras of the moment. Samsung has redesigned its camara 360 on the inside and the outside for its 2017 edition. The Geat counts with 4k real resolution and the possibility of doing live streaming from the desktop’s app. All of this for a more than an price for a device which, finally, gets out of the ecosystem and becomes compatible with all the available platforms.
> Ricoh Theta V
Price: 449 €.
This camera is the 4k evolution of the successfull Theta S. It is a camera with double sensor (of 12 Mp each) which allows the recording of 360 videos on resolution 3840 x 1920 and in H.264 and H.265 format. Furthermore, it allows the creation of live streaming and counts with the recording of spacial audio at 360º. A great camera which makes the diferrence among the last two in quality as well as price.
> Kodak PixPro 4KVR360
Price: 499 €.
A camera with action, 4k resolution, capacity of doing live streaming and resistant to splashes, dust and drops of up to two meters of height (with the cover on the objective). Furthermore it is compatible both with Android as well as iOs and it can be connected through Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and NFS.
In this area things change. The quality jump is huge, but so is the difference in price. There’s even specific solutions for the capture of 360 images adapted to each need.
Our intention for what is left of the year is to try the market’s most relevant 360 cameras and provide an analysis of each one. We will start with the Orah 4i and with the Nokia OZO, considered to be the first step into the professional world and the most technologically advanced. Two cameras which have different positioning from each oher, including in price, as from one brand to the other there is a distance of nearly 20.000 euros.
